Belgium also has its local A Rocha group!
This group of a dozen people, mostly from the Brussels region, had already started their discussions on ecology a few months ago. With the presence of two A Rocha Ambassadors, Rose and Daniel, the group has gradually moved towards an official attachment to A Rocha France, which allows it to benefit from support and resources dedicated to Ambassadors.
Meeting on 21 June by video conference, the group laid the foundations for its operation, initially on a remote basis. Like the other local A Rocha groups, the objectives are: to pray, to be informed/trained, to raise awareness and to act.
Prayer and training
During this meeting, prayer, encouraging one another and training were highlighted, with Yves, one of the participants, reflecting on a phrase from the Lord’s Prayer: “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matt. 6:10)
God’s will is what he enjoys, what he loves. An intermingling of his pleasure, his joy, his love. So working for the care of creation is not a duty or a binding decision, nor a political choice. Working for the preservation of creation is simply cooperating with the Creator for his pleasure and ours. It means doing what is right, what is just, what is useful for living beings today and for tomorrow, and never having to be ashamed of it.
Also planned is a study of Frederic de Connick’s book, Local crisis or global collapse? Christians in a broken world.
Taking action and raising awareness
The long-term perspective for this Belgian group is to form several sub-groups in different geographical locations in order to facilitate the transition to action for awareness raising and nature protection.
